Bollywood reacts to GOW II
Following the theatrical journey of the first part that began on June 22, Gangs Of Wasseypur II is set to take the campaign into its final lap, as its second part opens in cinemas today.
Friday releases are normal, but when it's Anurag Kashyap calling the shots, unpredictable is a given. Vikram Malhotra, COO of Viacom18 Motion Pictures, explains, "GOW II" is coming within 50 days of the first part. It is probably for the first time that one has seen one continuing ad campaign for two films. The Gangs double whammy has signalled the era of a new kind of commercial cinema in India."
GOW II takes off from the death of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) and gets cool and contemporary as his son Faizal (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) ushers it into a new era. Says Anurag, "People should look forward to the film because it's more entertaining and a lot more fun. In fact, we hope to make Nawaz and Huma as the best jodi in Bollywood this year." Sneha Khanwalkar, who wowed audiences with her compositions the first time round, has given numbers like Taar Bijli and Kaala Re that have already become popular on the charts.
